A STORY FROM OUR AGENCY:
For months, Julia had seen her mom, Mary, slowly isolate herself due to her health. The bright woman whose strength and laughter had never faltered had been completely changed, ever since her diabetes began affecting her foot health.
Grandma Mary had developed sores on her feet that were slow to heal and multiplying faster than she could afford to treat them. Having recently moved to Nebraska, neither Mary, Julia, or her 3 daughters had insurance. Prior to healthcare bills coming in, they were barely making ends meet. Mary stopped going to her treatments and refused to leave her home due to the pain. After 2 recent deaths in the family, Julia was afraid that her mother would be the next.
Searching for ways to bring back her mother, a conversation with a church member showed her the way: Clinic with a Heart. After one conversation with the staff, Julia understood she and her family weren’t alone. She was able to schedule an appointment for her mom with our volunteer Podiatrist and an appointment for herself with our mental health provider. The glasses she had been wearing for years, held up by tape, were replaced through our vision voucher program, and finally, she was able to see the hope she had been desperately seeking.
