A STORY FROM OUR AGENCY:
Teenagers confined in the Lancaster County Youth Detention Center have felt the pandemic more acutely than most, which is why we made it a priority to keep as much art in their lives as possible. What was to have been an in-person Spring Pathfinder Program residency turned into a summer virtual residency. “Daria is an amazingly thoughtful and insightful young lady. She had just spent the last 2 weeks isolated from anyone because she was a "close contact" exposure to a JDO who tested positive for Covid. She was on the pod all day and evenings with just a JDO [Juvenile Detention Officer] and teacher. She worked hard on her schoolwork and came out of her shell in Nancy Konrardy’s art classes. I am so happy that the art programming was a support for her. She was so happy when they agreed to let her keep the art supplies after school, and had expressed to the JDO's how much working on her art was helping her. Teaching art is a great gift you give to these students, and thank you, to you all. It brings piece to their minds. If it lasts only a minute, days, weeks, a lifetime, it is worth every effort we put in. Their minds need peace, to gain knowledge and understanding. They have very little ‘peace’ in their worlds. You had a tremendous impact upon this young person!” – Randy Farmer, Pathfinder Principal
