A STORY FROM OUR AGENCY:

Nebraskans rely on local public health departments to help communities prevent, prepare for, withstand, and recover from the impact of a full range of health threats in addition to COVID-19. That work includes stopping the spread of other communicable diseases; establishing local prevention programs to address chronic disease and prevent injuries; responding to public health emergencies and natural and human-caused disasters; working with partners to improve local community services such as healthcare, education, housing, and employment opportunities; and reaching out to people who are at greatest risk for having poor health outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic has required extraordinary effort on the part of the leadership and staff of Nebraska’s local public health departments. They have risen to the unprecedented challenges of the past year, working to protect all who live in Nebraska from the spread of COVID-19.

Since 2021, the Nebraska Association of Local Health Directors (NALHD) has served local health departments, as a connection point for strategic coordination and supplemental capacity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, NALHD has emerged as a critical component of our state’s public health infrastructure—facilitating key partnerships and collaborations between local health departments, statewide community partners, DHHS, NDE, and others.

A donation to NALHD is a tangible way to support and thank the local public health workers who devote themselves to keeping all people in Nebraska healthy and safe.
