A STORY FROM OUR AGENCY:

On a crisp fall morning, a fourth-grade class from a Title I school boarded a bus—many for the first field trip of their lives. For some students, it was their first time leaving their neighborhood. Without support from the Roam grant program, that bus wouldn’t have come. At the museum, something shifted. One student lingered in front of an exhibit, quietly reading every word. Another raised their hand—then kept raising it—curious, engaged, seen. Their teacher later shared that these were students who often struggled to connect in the classroom, yet here they were asking questions, making connections, and imagining new possibilities. Roam grants make these moments possible. By funding transportation, admission, and meaningful programming, the Foundation removes barriers that too often keep students from experiencing history firsthand. Across Nebraska, these grants also support collection preservation, local festivals, youth and family programming, exhibits, publications, and professional development—strengthening how communities share and sustain their stories. For that class, the trip didn’t end when the bus returned. Back at school, students wrote about what they saw, told their families, and began to see themselves as part of Nebraska’s story. Your support opens doors—ensuring every child, regardless of circumstance, has access to history, inspiration, and opportunity.
